Scaling Indigenous-led Holistic Sport Models

Ultimate Spirit in Thompson-Okanagan

Creating Spaces Where Indigenous Youth Feel They Belong and are Valued

Donate to Ultimate Spirit

Nationally, nearly 1 in 3 Indigenous families have hesitated to enroll their children in sport due to concerns about inclusion. That’s not a participation problem. It’s a design problem and it is a problem that Level the Field wants to solve. Therefore, Level the Field has partnered with BC Ultimate Society to support Ultimate Spirit in the Thompson-Okanagan to generate the learning required to create transformational connections. What Level the Field learns here will help shape how we back Indigenous-led sport across other communities and sports in BC.

Since 2017, more than 4,000 Indigenous youth across 27 communities have been part of Ultimate Spirit where Indigenous culture, values, and community shape the experience from the start. It does that by:

  • investing in community members so they gain experience in culturally safe sport delivery,
  • facilitating youth mentors to access leadership development rooted in identity and belonging,
  • supporting local First Nations in shaping the program for their communities.
  • Building connections between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities so that more youth benefit from sport.

Be part of this amazing journey whether it’s learning more, sharing the story, partnering with us, or supporting in a way that feels right for you.
