Donate to Ultimate SpiritNationally, nearly 1 in 3 Indigenous families have hesitate to enroll their child in sport because they aren’t confident their child would be welcome. That’s not a participation problem. It’s a design problem. When communities aren’t part of designing a program, families notice, and they stay away.
Level the Field backs organizations already getting this right, and Ultimate Spirit has been doing it since 2017. Delivered by BC Ultimate Society, the Indigenous-focused program has reached more than 4,000 Indigenous participants across 27 communities in BC. It was shaped with Indigenous communities and ISPARC, rather than designed for them. It takes a holistic view of health that reflects the physical, mental, spiritual, and cultural aspects of community life. Its vision is to create transformational connections between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities, with the sport of Ultimate as the vehicle.
We’re supporting Ultimate Spirit to expand their reach in the Thompson-Okanagan, and to learn what’s required to create transformational connections. Level the Field will take what’s proven here to help other organizations across BC build for belonging, too.
Because when belonging is part of the design, more people get to play.
