Reimagining Sport
Backing practical solutions to create more equitable pathways into sport and recreation across BC.
About UsA more inclusive future for sport in BC
Many communities remain underserved by sport and recreation systems that were not designed or built with everyone in mind. By investing in practical, proven approaches, we help create more equitable pathways into sport and recreation for British Columbians. While barriers can affect anyone, they are more pronounced and interconnected for communities that have historically experienced inequities, like: indigenous peoples and communities; women, girls and gender-diverse people; 2SLGBTQIA+ people; racialized people and communities; people with disabilities; newcomers to BC; people facing affordability challenges, and; people facing mental health challenges.
Barriers can result from the following challenges people face:
- Geographic isolation, transportation
- Diverse gender identities, gender stereotypes, bias, stigma
- Caregiving responsibilities
- Physical, sensory, communication challenges
- Adaptive equipment, trained staff
- Colonization, discrimination, racism, language, cultural exclusion
- Coach, official, leadership representation
- Anxiety, depression, psychological safety, mental health
